چکیده
We derive closed expressions for the mean and variance of the (mini-)jet multiplicity distribution in hard scattering processes at low x. Here (mini-)jets are defined as those due to initial-state radiation of gluons with transverse momenta greater than some resolution scale μR, where Λ 2 ≪ μ R ≪ Q, Λ being the intrinsic QCD scale and Q the momentum transfer scale of the hard scattering. Our results are valid to leading order in log(1/x) but include all sub-leading logarithms of Q/μ R . As an illustration, we predict the mini-jet multiplicity in Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider.

We present predictions of jet rates in deep inelastic scattering at small x to leading-logarithmic order in x, including all sub-leading logarithms of Q/μ R where μR is the transverse momentum scale at which jets are resolved. We give explicit results for up to three jets, and a perturbative expansion for multi-jet rates and jet multiplicities.

We discuss how momentum conservation is implemented in perturbative computations based on expansions of anomalous dimensions appropriate at small x. We show that for any given choice of F 2 coefficient functions there always exists a factorization scheme where the gluon is defined in such a way that momentum is conserved at next to leading order.
متن کاملVacuum Oscillation Solution to the Solar Neutrino Problem
The vacuum oscillation (VO) solution to the solar anomaly requires an extremely small neutrino mass splitting, ∆m2sol < ∼ 10 −10 eV. We study under which circumstances this small splitting (whatever its origin) is or is not spoiled by radiative corrections. The results depend dramatically on the type of neutrino spectrum. If m21 ∼ m22 > ∼ m23, radiative corrections always induce too large mass ...
